Katie Tucker is an award-winning multimedia journalist with experience in photo, video and audio storytelling. She is currently the staff visual journalist at The Telegraph in Macon, Georgia. 

At The Telegraph, Katie provides high quality photo and video for community focused stories, including breaking news, sports, features, politics and more. In addition, she coordinates with reporters on visual coverage and edits photo and video for the newsroom. Katie was also selected for the Spring 2025 cohort of the McClatchy AI fellowship, a five person company-wide cohort that researches the intersection of artificial intelligence and journalism. Her research centered on finding a more streamlined process to verify the authenticity of news images that may have been created or manipulated using AI. 

She graduated from the University of Georgia in 2023 with a degree in Journalism, a minor in International Affairs and a certificate in New Media.

After graduation, Katie worked as a freelance photojournalist for the Associated Press in Australia covering the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, where her work appeared in The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Guardian and others. Her photographs were featured in CNN’s The best photos of the 2023 Women’s World Cup and Sky Sport’s 20 Best Photos from the Women’s World Cup.

As a student, Katie worked as the assistant photo editor and chief photographer for The Red & Black, covering the Athens and UGA community. She also served as the local government and politics reporter for The Oglethorpe Echo during the 2022 midterm election. She also worked as a staff producer at NPR affiliate WUGA-FM in Athens, Georgia.
